IMPROVING PRESCHOOL CHILDREN’S ARTISTIC ABILITIES BY MEANS OF UKRAINIAN ARTS AND CRAFTS

Abstract

In this article, the authors consider one of the most relevant contemporary psychological and pedagogical issues – the improving of artistic abilities of preschool children, which takes place in the context of involving children in Ukrainian arts and crafts and artistic activities within this art; using the forms and methods of pedagogical work that provide a positive attitude to the manifestations of the child’s individuality in artistic activity. The methodology of working with children is aimed at enriching the culture of visual perception; improving emotional sensitivity to works of fine arts; involving in independent artistic activity in the techniques of Ukrainian folk art; forming the ability to use their ideas about means of artistic expression (rhythm, colour, composition) for the embodiment of their plan, the transfer of their feelings; forming the ability to express their attitude to the depicted images; developing the ability to compare, analyse, and generalize; forming the desire to participate in the creation of beauty and to bring its elements to life; developing the children’s interest and the idea of artistic features and the purpose of Ukrainian arts and crafts. The authors note that the obligatory condition for the development of children’s artistic abilities is systematic comprehensive work using appropriate methods of teaching artistic activity and communicating with the child; the development of abilities is possible only if a child has a positive motivation for artistic activity based on the basic needs of preschool children; great importance is the creation of the necessary material conditions for children to engage in artistic activities (premises, equipment, different materials collected in a place convenient for children). For successful development of artistic abilities, it is expedient to use true samples of Ukrainian art and crafts and original artistic techniques; the necessary condition for the development of artistic abilities of a child is the organization of activities based on his or her own impressions, emotions, feelings. It is important to use gaming techniques in teaching and game motivations in artistic activities.
