Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells in domestic animals − recent achievements − a review
Journal Title: Animal Science Papers and Reports - Year 2013, Vol 31, Issue 2
Abstract
Pluripotent cells show the unlimited self-renewal capacity and the potential to differentiate into the cell lineages originating from three germ layers. To date real pluripotent stem cell lines, able to generate germ line chimeras, have been established in rodents. Large domestic animals, especially pig, due to their considerable anatomical and physiological similarities with humans are thought to be convenient model to test potential of pluripotent cells in cell replacement therapy before their clinical use. However, creating pluripotent cells in domestic animals until now has met the limitations due to lack of evidence for germ line contribution. Therefore they can not be considered real pluripotent cells but rather putative embryonic or embryonic-like stem cells. Recently, much attention has been drawn to the reprogramming technologies which enable redirection of differentiated somatic cells to the pluripotent status. The aim of this review is to present the recent achievements in generating of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells in domestic animals.

The effect of insertion/deletion polymorphisms within the promoter and intron 1 sequences of the PRNP gene on the breeding value of Holstein-Friesian bulls
The aim of this study was to verify the hypothesis that insertion/deletion (indel) polymorphisms within the promoter and intron 1 sequences of the prion protein (PRNP) gene can affect the breeding value of Holstein-Fries...
Polymorphism of AA-NAT gene and its relationship with litter size of Jining Grey goat of China
The polymorphisms of arylalkylamine-N-acetyltransferase (AA-NAT) gene in high-prolificacy Jining Grey goat, medium-prolificacy Boer goat and low-prolificacy Liaoning Cashmere, Inner Mongolia Cashmere and Angora goats wer...
Association between polymorphism in STAT5A gene and milk production traits in Chinese Holstein cattle
STAT5 is a key intracellular mediator of prolactin signaling and can activate transcription of milk proteins in response to prolactin. STAT5 genes are suggested to be candidate markers for milk protein yield and composit...
Evaluation of expression of endothelin A receptor gene in the follicular granulosa cells of broiler hens as related to variation of plasma leptin
This study was designed to investigate levels of ETAR gene expression in the granulosa layer of broiler hens with different levels of plasma leptin and lipids (cholesterol and triacyglycerol). To induce different plasma...
