Influence of the carbon source and the gelling agent on the regeneration of Indica rice variety IACuba-28 from callus
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2002, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
Several variations on plant regeneration medium from callus in IACuba-28 rice cultivar were evaluated using the basal MS medium with the same grouth regulator concentrations. As carbon source 30g.l -1 of maltose or sucrose was used, in combination with 8g.l -1 of agarose or 4.3g.l -1 of phytagel as gelling agent. In all cases green shoots in callus were observed, but the best results were obtained using the combination maltose-phytagel, where the first green shoots were detected and the higher plant number was obtained five days after callus incubation in a shorter time.
