INFORMATION POTENTIAL THE PERIODICAL OF «AMSTERDAM» FOR CREATION OF «IMAGE» OF UKRAINE THE BEGINNINGS OF THE 18TH CENTURY (FROM FUNDS OF THE SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY OF ODESSA I.I. MECHNIKOV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY)

Abstract
In article is considered the information potential of the periodic French-language Amsterdam edition. It is established that on pages of the edition events of Great Northern war of 1700-1721 in which Ukrainian “images” – the Cossacks are illustrated were regularly covered: hetman of Ukraine of I. Mazepa and I. Skoropadskyi, the names “Ukraine” and the settlements that had important Military and political importance. The Ukrainian hetman repeatedly appeared on the news pages, in connection with the events of 1708 – his national liberation speech; the reports clearly defined the hetman’s intentions and the reasons for his fateful decision – to go over to the side of the Swedish king Karl XII. Information on intentions of the hetman appears in messages for half a year before the transition of Ivan Mazepa to the side of Karl XII. It can demonstrate awareness of a source of information; such action was coded even from the immediate environment of a getman. On the pages of the publication, the possible reasons for this national-liberation action of the hetman are also set forth. All above demonstrates that the European reader had an opportunity in due time and to truthfully obtain information on the Ukrainian affairs and actions of the head of Ukraine (Hetmanate)
