Abstract
Gutorov O.I. Innovative strategy: the importance, development, and selection methods. The article substantiates that the development of an innovation strategy is a general long-term program of action and a procedure for the distribution of the priorities and resources of the organization to achieve its goals. The process of the innovative strategy developing involves several stages that are implemented in the logical sequence: the goal statement, moulding, evaluation, and control. The theoretical and methodic approaches to the identification of the strategic innovation as a subsystem of general management have been developed. Its tasks are the effective management of the development process, introduction of the production and the innovative commercialization with the correspondence of the proper managerial decisions with the system of the operational, marketing, and financial and personnel management. To choose the innovative strategy it is expedient to use an approach from the standpoint of the pattern “the commodity life cycle” which classifies the products of the enterprise (the firm) according to the stages of their life cycle. This staged cycle is very similar to the Boston Consultative Group (BCG) matrix. (The BCG proposed the idea to use the matrix of 2 by 2 dimensions in order to identify those types of products that have high potential and those products that exhaust the resources of the organization). According to the analogy, it is possible to independently make the conclusions about the strategy of the enterprise (the firm) at each stage of the commodity life cycle. It is substantiated that the choice of the strategy is connected with the plans for development, with the conducting and developing the researches and other forms of the innovative activity. The strategic planning algorithm has been revealed. This algorithm is based on the thorough analysis of the external and internal environment of the enterprise (the firm) whose counterpart is the assessment of the changes that take place or can take place during the planning period; on the disclosure of the factors threatening the position of the enterprise (the firm); on the research of the factors that are favourable for the enterprise (the firm) activity. The main factors associated with the external environment are economy, politics, market, technologies, and competition. The competition is an especially important factor. That is why it is necessary to identify the main competitors and their commercial positions (the market share, sales volumes, goals, etc.). Considering the variety of strategies and criteria for their classification as the main innovative strategies, it is reasonable to distinguish the offensive, defensive, and imitative strategies. It has been proposed to reduce the methodical apparatus for choosing the innovation strategy to five methods: the method of structural and morphological analysis; the method of determining the characteristics of the publishing activity; the method of patent-analogues; the method of terminological and lexical analyses; and the method of indices.
