Innovativeness in terms of cognitive economy
Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2011, Vol 10, Issue 4
Abstract
In a postindustrial era, defined also as postmodernism, factors like physical resources, technology and workers’ manual skills do not anymore determine enterprises’ survival and growth but knowledge and the ability to make use of it, which expresses itself also as innovation. Contemporaneity basing on more common and multifaceted use of information technology generates increasing amouts of information which becomes difficult to control. This information is not always a source of knowledge and often introduces noise and distortion in the perception of reality. Meanwhile, the one who wins in the market game is faster and smarter, the one who has got access to proper information and knows how to translate it into knowledge and then use it in business. Economy based on knowledge (cognitive economy) creates and uses intellectual potential in creating competitive advantages. Knowledge management is not therefore a simple slogan or a trend in the theory and practice of management but the essence (core) of cognitive economy. It is directly connected to the management of change and implementation of innovation. Innovation process involving generation and implementation new ideas always refers to all aspects (areas) of knowledge management, starting from its generation, through its implementation, dissemination and preservation. Multiplying the potential of knowledge and thus the innovation capacity of organization is subjected to impact of various objective (external) and subjective (internal) factors, including corporate culture. The statement of Descartes “Cogito, ergo sum” did not loose on its greatness, on the contrary, recently it has gained a new, redoubled importance (sense).
