Abstract
Today innovations are considered to be a key factor in the growth and development of modern enterprises and as such represent the driving force of today's economy in many countries. In the face of sharp competition in business, companies are forced to invest in innovation and innovate in order to succeed in business and ultimately survive on the market. If they do, there is no development, and business results are questionable. Such companies eventually fall under the influence of the environment or competition that effectively innovates their products, processes, and methods. The article defines concepts of innovation and innovation, explains the innovation strategies of the Republic of Croatia and the European Union, interprets three groups of innovation strategies: innovation, I & R strategies and process innovations. At the end of the paper, it is explained why innovations are a key factor for growth and enterprise development, and as such represent the driving force of the economy of many countries.
