Insight from Computer Ergonomic towards Health Stability in Information Technology Community

Abstract
The result of various health challenges often faced at places of work has a far-reaching effect on the socioeconomy development of any nation. These health issues range from fatigues, musculoskeletal or even severe ones that could lead to permanent disability. In the IT world, this observation is reportedly more pronounced sequel to the increase in number of users of various computer equipment in almost all facet of life in Nigeria. Thus, this study was carried out in order to investigate the causation of discomfort related to working postures and to access health disorder among IT professionals. A structured questionnaire, consisting of 25items to elicit the relationship between health challenges as a result of various working conditions of IT professional in Nigeria was administered on the sample. Findings revealed that IT professionals suffered from pain especially in the back, neck, hands and legs based on the number of hours with years they have spent in the profession. Also, it was showed that materials like rug/carpet, air condition, fire extinguisher, proper arrangement of seats, power generator, refrigerator with drinks, un-interrupted power supply and power regulator are gadgets that contribute to congenial working environment and workers‟ health stability. The expository perspective of this study provides the considerable factors and the environment in which one can work safely, efficiently and in comfort. It was also recommended that there should be a separate, quite space with ergonomically designed computing devices, where there is no disruption from surroundings and should not be prone to pollution, electrical distortion or structural displacement.
