Journal Title: Eminak - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
The article oversees the peculiarities of relations between the Orthodox clergy and princely power in the process of exaltation and sacralization of one-man rule of Rurik dynasty, and using by Kievan princes the Pontic version of relations between spiritual and temporal power. During the XI-XII centuries was created a new hierarchy of the Orthodox clergy of the local, Russian origin. At the same time clergy worked out a new system of church-state relations aimed to settle the glorification of the prince, his government bodies in the Russian state. Jaroslav desired to canonize the Rurik dynasty and this desire finally sacralized еру power of Kievan princes. The nation received saints, church and princely dynasty, which lived righteously and therefore in God's plan is to continue to govern in. An important component of the ideological program of Kyiv glorification and of the ruling princely dynasty were measures aimed at creating their own philosophical and historical epics which were different from the existing Byzantine literature. During the 30's and 40’s years of the XI century formed a Sofia workshop – a group of well-trained scribes and scholars who were involved not only into translation of Greek texts and rewriting the texts, but also who created the new works of literature that were aimed to implement and promote the theoretical platform of the era. Was created a mix of pagan and Christian perceptions of government institutions – was modified its external attributes. During the reign of Yaroslav the chronicle tradition was deeply changed. Was gradually formed the idea that power belongs to the oldest person in the family and this person has preferential right to Kyiv throne. The main requirement to the land owner, as wrote chroniclers were sanctity and sanity. Therefore, Volodymyr and Yaroslav, like God chosen and with rich life experience, had a preferential right to Kyiv throne. Chronicler bases his opinion on the certain statement of the prince, and creates the legend of Yaropolk and Sviatopolk crimes and Jaroslav seniority among the sons of Volodymyr at the time of his death. Kyiv princely dynasty successfully used the act of Rus Christianization to establish the sole reign and to create the Kyiv Metropolis. Church hierarches were not only legitimizing the princely power, but they also were intermediaries in the process of conflicts solving between princes within the country and abroad.
