Journal Title: Journal of Stomatology (Czasopismo Stomatologiczne) - Year 2008, Vol 61, Issue 11
Abstract
Introduction: Orthodontic treatment of adults has recently become more and more common. Malocclusions in such patients may contribute to changes in periodontium intensifying unattractive appearance of dentition.Aim of the study: To evaluate marginal periodontal tissues in patients treated orthodontically following teeth extraction.Material and methods: Five patients who had their teeth extracted prior to orthodontic treatment (group A) and fivepatientswithplannedextractionsaspartof their orthodontic treatment (group B) comprised the study material of initial examinations. Recession depth (RD) and recession width (RW) as well as clinical attachment level (CAL) were estimated in all examined patients before and after the orthodontic treatment. All patients had postextraction gaps closed reducing dental arch circumference. Results: The condition of gingiva visibly improved following orthodontic treatment in group BConclusion: The results of initial examinations encourage further analyses comprising a larger group of patients.
