INTERPREATION OF THE PAST FROM TRADITIONS: AN EVALUATION OF THE GOKEYUP (SALIHLI-MANISA) POTTERY FROM THE ETHNOARCHAEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract
Inrecent years, archeologists aim to find solutions to questions and issues with studies about pottery and with analogies regarding the outcomes of these studies. Women living in rural areas made pots by with a primitive method in order to support their source of income. If this approach is accepted, Gokeyup pottery has a significant place in western Anatolia where pots made out of clay by women were placed in a spinning and sharp plate on a saucer made out of clay again. These pots were shaped by hands with a distinctive/unique style. Gokeyup pottery definitely provides an ethnoarchaeological perspective to archeologists, social anthropologists, ethnologists, and folklorists. It also provides an opportunity to them to deal with cultural archeology. It remains its remarkable importance about the need to protect and sustainability of intangible cultural heritage.
