Introduction to the immune system in plants
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2010, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
Many plants are invaded by pathogenic microbes that worsen their growth and reproduction. Plants have a defense system that goes from physical barriers to molecular and systemic signals, similar to the animal innate immunity. This system acts of two fundamental forms; the first responds to common molecules of many kinds of pathogenic and nonpathogenic microbes and the second responds directly to virulence factors of the pathogens or to their effectors in the host. The detailed knowledge of the plant immune system and the evolutionary molecular relations that settle down between both organisms, will allow a better understanding of the plant-pathogen interaction. This will permit a better genetic manipulation of the plants aimed to obtain resistance to pathogens improving the food production. In this work a compendium is realized on the characteristics, molecular and biochemical interactions of both defense mechanisms in the plants, as well as the strategies used by pathogens to suppress both phases of the immunity.

Agricultural yield of potato lines planted out of season of plantation in a mountainous area
The present investigation was developed with the objective of evaluating the agricultural yield of four potato lines out of season of plantation. The lines IBP-27, IBP-30, IBP-101 and IBP-107 (obtained for the Potato Bre...
Effect of the intercellular extracts of banana leaves inoculated with Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet, on the electronic transport in chloroplasts of the cv Grande naine (AAA)
Some foliar pathogens colonize intercellular spaces of damage tissues during infection process, mediated by toxins production and diffusion to kill adjacent healthy cells. Due to the absence of reliable bioassays, the ph...
Influence of the time of year and genotype on the morphogenic and biochemical response of leaf explants of Coffea canephora P. var. Robust used for callus formation
The seasonal change is one from the factors to consider in the embryogenic answer of diverse crops, the variations of temperature, humidity and precipitations cause fluctuations in the plants that influence in the beha...
Genetic transformation of Coffea arabica cv. Red caturra by electroporation of cell suspensions embryogenic
Plant regeneration by somatic embryogenesis from cell suspensions is considered the most efficient method for mass production of plants. The objective of this work was to achieve the genetic transformation of Coffea ar...
