INVESTIGATION OF SECONDARY 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS' MATHEMATICAL REASONING SKILLS IN TERMS OF SOME VARIABLE

Abstract

The aim of this research is to measure mathematical reasoning skill levels of middle school 7th and 8th grade students after giving general information about mathematical reasoning skills and to examine some variables. The research was carried out using a screening model from quantitative research methods. Mathematical Reasoning Skill Test (MRST) developed by the researcher was used as data collection tool in the study. The data collection tool consists of the first part with demographic information and the second part with 20 multiple choice questions related to mathematical reasoning. The obtained data were analyzed with the help of SPSS program. Independent sample t-test to test the variance according to the grade level and gender variables students read after descriptive statistics in the study; According to the findings of the research, the mathematical reasoning skills of the middle school students were moderate, the mathematical reasoning skills of the middle school students significantly differed according to the educational level of the parents, the number of the siblings, the number of siblings and the number of siblings it was determined that there was no significant difference.
