IRONY AS THE MEANS OF POLITICAL MANIPULATION: LINGUISTIC ASPECT (ON THE MATERIALS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE POLITICAL DISCOURSE)

Abstract
The problem of political manipulation draws attention of scientists of different branches. But the linguistic aspect remained beyond scientists’ attention. The article deals with irony as the means of political manipulation. As any political text (analytical article, public speech, parliamentary debates) is a part of an integral sociocultural context, the research of irony functioning in the sphere of political communication should take into account extralinguistic, pragmatic and sociocultural factors.
