Journal Title: Δόξα / Докса. Збірник наукових праць з філософії та філології - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue
Abstract
The article is devoted to the textual analysis of Jean Paul’s fragment «The dead Christ speaking from the world-building, that there is no God». The purpose of the analysis is to reveal the role of artistic imagery in the embodiment and formation of religious feelings in pre-romantic literature. Biographical and literary contexts of creation of a fragment are considered. It is proposed to consider it as an important milestone in Jean Paul’s personal biography, and also as a document of pre-romantic aesthetics. The experience of the grandiose picture of the world catastrophe, the cause of which was the assumption that there is no God in the world, causes the effect of catharsis. After experiencing the purifying effect of catharsis, the hero returns to the child’s faith in God. Syntactic, lexical, phonetic features of the original text, that are aimed at creating a psychological effect, and the problems of its translation are analyzed.
