Journal Title: Eminak - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
The article examines the reasons for the unification of the Jewish population of Ukraine into the national political parties, traces the formation of centers of political organizations in Jewish shtetls, and analyzes the alignment of political forces in the Right-Bank Ukraine Jewish shtetls during the development of the newest Ukrainian statehood. One of the brightest manifestations of the development of public and civic consciousness of the Jewish population was the activity of local centers of national political parties in the shtetls of Right-Bank Ukraine. The Jewish population in the public authorities of Ukraine was represented primarily by the socialists, but the evidence suggests that the majority of shtetl population supported the views of Zionists, who were recognized by the Jewish shtetl population for their really fruitful and useful work. The author proves that despite the complicated relations with the state structures of the country and the unstable militarypolitical situation, the activity of Jewish political parties in the Right-Bank shtetls was quite noticeable: they had significant influence in the local government bodies and during elections to Jewish public councils.
