KARANLIK ÜÇLÜ ÖLÇEĞİ: TÜRKÇE’YE UYARLAMA, GÜVENİLİRLİK VE GEÇERLİLİK ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı “Karanlık Üçlü” adı verilen, makyavelizm, psikopati ve narsizm kişilik özelliklerini ölçmek için kullanılmakta olan ölçeğin Türkçe’ye uyarlanarak güvenilirlik ve geçerliliğinin ortaya konulmasıdır. Bir işletmede yönetici pozisyonunda çalışanlar araştırma örneklemi olarak seçilmiştir. Ölçeğin Türkçe dilinde güvenilirlik ve geçerliliğinin test edilebilmesi için iki farklı örneklemden veriler toplanarak önce keşfedici ve daha sonra da doğrulayıcı faktör analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Yapılan analizler sonucunda ölçeğin üç faktörlü yapısının doğrulandığı görülmüştür. Ardından yapı geçerliliği için gerçekleştirilen yakınsak ve ıraksak geçerlilik testlerinde de herhangi bir sorun gözlenmediğinden ölçeğin güvenilir ve geçerli bir ölçek olduğu ileri sürülebilmektedir. Söz konusu bu bulgular, karanlık üçlü ölçeğinin özellikle işletme yönetimi alanında yapılacak çalışmalarda kullanılabilmesi için güvenilir ve geçerli bir araç olarak kullanılabileceğini ortaya koymaktadır. EXTENDED SUMMARY Research Problem: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the reliability and validity by adapting the scale called “Dark triad dirty dozen” to Turkish. Literature Review: Studies on personality traits in the field of organizational behavior have generally focused on the positive personality traits, especially after 2010, the studies needed to examine the dark sides of human nature in order to explain the reasons for the inappropriate behavior of the employees at the workplace. Paulhus and Williams have described the three different, but also similar, characteristics of human nature as machiavellianism, psychopathy and narcissism as the dark triad of personality. In the last decade, the number of researches on the concept of dark triad has increased exponentially. Studies that analyze the functionality of the human personality claim that personality traits arise when people have to adopt social situations and that personal characteristics of people are to gain social status in society, to secure their position in society and to be friends with other people. Some people achieve these goals by using socially positive characteristics such as being compromiser and conscientious, while others, in the interest of their own interests, achieve by using socially negative features. In this respect, individuals with machiavellian personality characteristics think that other individuals have a naive personality and therefore do not see any disadvantages in manipulating others. Individuals with narcissistic personality are extremely admired for their spiritual and physical identities, they are very much like themselves, they are not empathetic and they tend to attract attention. Besides, individuals with personality characteristics of psychopathy tend to exhibit anti-social behaviors by ignoring social norms. Paulhus and Williams describe these three negative personality traits as “dark triad”. It is claimed that these three personality traits also contain malice, which directly affects interpersonal behavior. In the literature review of this study, the dimensions of the concept of dark triad mentioned in detail. Methodology: The researchers use the scale which is conducted by Jonason and Webster (2010) in order to measure dark triad personality traits. As already mentioned, the aim of the study is to demonstrate the reliability and validity by adapting the scale called “Dark triad dirty dozen” to Turkish. Employees who were in managerial positions in any enterprise were selected as research sample. In order to adapt the scale in Turkish, firstly, the researchers agreed on each other’s translations by making the English-Turkish translation seperately. Then, in consultation with researchers from psychology and organizational behavior disciplines, the scale was revised to give the best meaning. Finally, to test the linguistic suitability of the scale, the appropriateness of the Turkish-English translation by linguistic academicians was checked. In order to test the reliability and validity of the scale in Turkish language, data collected from two different samples and analyzed with the SPSS 21.0 package program and then with AMOS 14.0 program. Results and Conclusion: It is aimed to adapt the scale created by Jonason and Webster (2010) to Turkish, because the measurement of each of the personality traits necessitates the creation of a longer questionnaire and creates difficulties for the validity of the research. For this reason, after the data were collected in the research progress, the construct validity of the scale, as a model, has been proved with exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes. However convergent and divergent validity tests were carried out in order to be able to use the scale in the following studies. As a result of different validity and reliability analyzes, the scale was valid for Turkish language. Thus Turkish version of the scale can be used by academicians and researchers in Turkey sample. Although it is not possible to make a generalization as to be valid and reliable in all enterprises, it is obvious that testing with different regions, different industries and participants from different positions in the future will increase the reliability of the scale. When the findings of the research are evaluated as a whole, the reliability and validity of the scale is tested with two different samples and with different analyzes. In this context, it can be said that it is a powerful tool for measuring the concept.
