Journal Title: Biuletyn Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej - Year 2017, Vol 67, Issue
Abstract
The aim of this article is to show the role of Józef Muczkowski in the publication of the works of Adam Mickiewicz. It presents the historical background of the nineteenth-century Grand Duchy of Poznań, the publications that came out at that time, as well as Muczkowski’s contacts with Edward Raczyński and Adam Tytus Działyński. It also describes the circumstances of the edition of Adam Mickiewicz’s poetry prepared by Józef Muczkowski. The manuscripts of the letters exchanged between Muczkowski and Joachim Lelewel in the years 1827–1830 regarding the publication of the works of Adam Mickiewicz – kept in the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow under shelfmarks 4435 (pages 688–703) and 4175 (pages 114–132) – have been prepared for print. This group of manuscripts contains nine letters written by Józef Muczkowski himself and eleven written by Joachim Lelewel.
