KÜLTEPE METİNLERİNDE ĒZİBTU(M) (Ēzibtum in Kültepe Texts)

Journal Title: Archivum Anatolicum-Anadolu Arsivleri - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 1

Abstract

Based on the divorce documents found among published Kültepe texts, it is ascertained that although women were paid divorce money once, they were not paid any alimony. Within the three texts discussed in this article, the statements such as (a-na) ( ṣé-er) e-zi-ib-tum/tim have been come across four times. In addition to these texts, the statements such as “um-ma e-zi-ib-tum-ma” and “x GÍN ana e-zi-ib-tim” recorded in the concerned lines of the other three texts also reveal the fact that it is necessary to add the word ēzibtu(m)” which means divorcee to CAD E 430 along with the already present word pronounced as e/izibtu(m) with a meaning of divorce money.
