LA PROBLEMATIQUE DE L’EAU EN ALGERIE DU NORD

Abstract

Water is threatened in its quality and its quantity. In spite of the construction of new dams and the recourse to desalination, Algeria will record a water deficit of 1 billion m3 from here the year 2025. The only area which seems to escape the deficit at this horizon is the hydrographic area of Constantinois - Seybouse - Mellègue, knowing that it was overdrawn by 2000 and could reabsorb this deficit thanks to the high régularisable volume ensured by the dams in construction. As example, Beni Haroun dam which makes it possible to regularize a volume of 432 million m3. Areas of the Algérois-SoummamHodna and Oranie-Chott Chergui are overdrawn, which generated a reduction in the water intended for the irrigation with an aim of privileging the drinking water supply (A.E.P) in these areas. This deficit will be accentuated much more on the level of the areas of Chliff-Zahras and the Algérois-Soummam-Hodna by 2025. Confrontation between resources - needs is a revealing and very significant code which directs us as for the future of the policy of water that we carry out in order to attenuate the effect of the deficit. It is clear that Algeria of north records of with dimensions, an enormous lack in resources at the time even or the needs increase and of another with dimensions, the volume of mobilizable water is in reduction. This is due to the various natural or human problems which touch the sites likely to collect water. We examine in this study the principal technical problems which affect the quantity and the quality of the water resources. It is about: the silting of the dams, the evaporation of the storage reservoirs, leakages through banks and foundations of the dams, the eutrophication of water of dams and the intrusion of marine water in the aquifers coastal. On the basis of this report, we propose a series of suggestions with an aim of safeguarding our mobilized resources, while trying to increase them to the maximum, as far as possible, which will cause the fall of the deficit and the raising of the rate of satisfaction, in the sense, our goal is the improvement of the current and future situation in order to arrive at the stage of balance.
