Length-Weight Relationships of 21 species of Elasmobranchii from Margarita Island, Venezuela
Journal Title: Journal of Research in Biology - Year 2014, Vol 4, Issue 7
Abstract
Length-Weight Relationships (LWR) were estimated for Elasmobranchii caught by the artisanal fishing fleet of Margarita Island, Venezuela. A total of 3604 organisms belonging to 21 species (14 sharks and 7 batoids) were analyzed. Growth type, minimum and maximum length and weight are summarized. The estimates for the ‘b’ parameter of the LWR ranged between 1.706 and 3.955, with a mean of 3.034. To the best of our knowledge, no information currently exists on the LWR of Heptranchias perlo, Squalus cubensis, Squatina dumeril, Gymnura micrura, Myliobatis freminvillei and Mobula hypostoma. This article stands as a pioneer towards the growth research in these elasmobranchs

Lignolytic and phosphate solubilizing efficiency of fungal species isolated from Arecanut husk waste
A wide range of microorganisms are capable of degrading lignin present in the Arecanut husk waste for their growth. The present study has been undertaken to isolate lignolytic and phosphate solubilizing fungi from Arecan...
Anti-inflammatory activity of lycopene isolated from Chlorella marina on carrageenan-induced rat paw edema
Even though role of lycopene (all-trans) in controlling inflammation was reported, lycopene (cis and all-trans 40:60) isolated from green algae Chlorella marina was not reported so far. In this present study inflammation...
Compatibility of Beauveria bassiana strains on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles
Nowadays synthesis of nanomaterials by using bio-root is limelight of modern nanotechnology. In the present investigation, we have isolated four strains viz: KFRI 330 (A), KFRI 332 (B), KFRI 351 (C) and KFRI 352 (D) of B...
