LIFE CONDITIONS AND GENITAL HYGIENE PRACTICES IN SEASONAL AGRICULTURAL WOMEN

Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the living conditions and genital hygiene practices of seasonal agricultural workers. The descriptive study was carried out between July and August 2016 in the neighborhoods of Malatya Province Akçadağ District. The sample of the research was formed by 500 women aged 18 and over who came to the region for the apricot harvest. Women were randomly sampled by random sampling method and data were obtained by questionnaire form. Number, percentage, mean, standard deviation and χ 2 significance test were used in the statistical analysis of the data. Significance was accepted at p<0.05 level. It was found that 26.05 ± 10.79% of the average age workers of seasonal agricultural workers, 39.2% of them could not reach to clean drinking water and usage water, 46.8% could not take bath when needed and 56.0% could not go to the toilet when they needed it. 74.3% of the married women had a vaginal shower and 14.2% had a vaginal infection at the moment. The marital status of seasonal agricultural workers (x²= 8.880 p=0.003), the frequency of changing underwear (x²=9.235 p=0.026), hand washing before and after the toilet (x²=13.015 p=0.005), what makes the genital area clean (X²=9.690 p=0.002), bath / showering pattern (x²=6.169 p=0.046), menstrual cycle changing frequency (x²=16.804 p=0.001), and statistical comparison between previous vaginal infection and vaginal infection found significant difference. As a result, living conditions and hygiene habits of seasonal agricultural workers have been found to be inadequate. For the solution of the problem, especially the health personnel working in primary health care services and the local administrations should pay attention to this issue.
