LIFTING BASED COMPRESSION ALGORITHM FOR POWER SYSTEM SIGNALS
Journal Title: Metrology and Measurement Systems - Year 2008, Vol 15, Issue 1
Abstract
The paper concerns the problem of power system signals compression with possible application in system monitoring and control. The proposed compression algorithm for power system signals ensures efficient use of available storage memory or communication channel bandwidth. It is shown that while preserving good quality, compression ratios from 20 in case of highly distorted waveforms to 340 for slightly distorted sinusoidal waves can be achieved. The presented results were evaluated with a specially prepared representative database of field-recorded electric signals. For signal decorrelation lifting implementation of wavelet transform in the compression algorithm was used. The influence of sampling frequency, length of data frame, type of wavelet function, number of wavelet decomposition stages and quantization level on the compression ratio and compression quality was investigated.

FREQUENCY-RESPONSE COMPENSATION OF DISTORTING PARTS OF MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS
In this article a class of digital correction filters is presented. This class of filters has been synthesized in an optimization procedure where two criteria are considered. The first criterion is an approximation of th...
HE INFLUENCE OF THE BALL MATERIAL ON THE BRINELL HARDNESS
A Brinell hardness tester with carbide and steel balls was calibrated and thereafter the hardness of ten samples of steel STN 41 1600 was measured by four appraisers. The uncertainty of calibration and of the hardness me...
DYNAMIC MEASUREMENT OF THE CURVE y(x) DEFINED BY PARAMETRIC RELATIONS x(t), y(t) UNDER RANDOM DISTURBANCES
Analog XY-recorders constructed as servomechanisms with sliding motion have been practically out of use for some time. Drawing the curve y(x) defined by parametric relations xz(t), yz(t) under additive, random disturbanc...
ADVANCED NANOMETROLOGY TECHNIQUES OF CARBON NANOTUBES CHARACTERIZATION
It has become evident that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess exceptionally high physical, mechanical, electrical, and structural properties that made them attractive for researchers to investigate. In this paper, CNTs synt...
APPLICATION OF SOM IN CLASSIFICATION OF EGG SIGNALS
The report presents problems associated with computer aided gastric diagnosis. The subject of the study are electrogastrographic (EGG) signals (non-invasively measured electrical signals generated by the human stomach)....
