Journal Title: Journal of Medical Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 17, Issue 1
Abstract
Hyperlipidemia is relatively common problem in patients with poorly controlled Diabetes Mellitus. Fifty (50) subjects of either sex were included in the present study; the age of the subjects was ranging from 30-80 years. A statistically highly significantly decrease (T= 4.26; p<0.001) in serum HDL-C level was observed in diabetic subjects as compared to the healthy control subjects. A statistically very significant decrease (t =3.42; p < 0.01), serum Mg++ level was observed in diabetic subjects as compared to the healthy control subjects. This study supports the dietary recommendations to increase consumption of major food sources of magnesium, such as whole grains, nuts and green leafy vegetables.
