LITERARY INHERITANCE OF V. HUGO IN THE CONTEXT OF THE FRENCH ROMANTICI

Abstract
The article «Literary Inheritance of V. Hugo in the Context of the French Romanticism» deals with the analysis of the writer’s creative works both prosaic and poetic. In this article V. Hugo is presented as the outstanding poet, playwrite, novelist and active political figure. The author of this article notes that the outstanding French writer has a special place not only in French literature but also in the world literature of the XIX century. He developed as a lyrical, political and epical poet («Odes and Ballads», «Autumn Leaves»). At the same time V. Hugo was an outstanding novelist loved by the whole nation, both by ordinary people and representatives of creative professions. The article points out that the author’s numerous works touch social, political, moral and philosophical problems. In particular, V. Hugo writes the stories «The Last Day of a Condemned Man», «Claude Gueuex» in which he is trying to prove that there is no place for the death penalty in a civilized society. The article also analyses well known dramas by V. Hugo. They made a considerable contribution into shaping of revolutionary and democratic awareness of the French people.It is also underlined that for many years the writer advocated romanticism, which he considered to be the most importaant artistic and literary trend. Being a theorist of romanticism, during his whole life, V. Hugo embodied the main categories of this literary trend in his works. This article deals with analysis of creative work of Victor Hugo, an outstanding poet, playwright, novelist and public figure. It investigates the writer’s social and moral principles reflected in his works. V. Hugo appeals to conscience, condemns cruelty and callousness, cries over victims on the pages of his books, dreams about brighter future for humanity.
