Living conditions of birth families of children benefiting from PAN Corporation of Medellín city

Abstract

In order to know the living conditions of the birth families of the children and adolescents who are beneficiaries of the foster homes of the city of Medellin, the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF) and Luis Amigó catholic university signed an agreement to study the situation of these families. The research study was carried out by using a descriptive quantitative methodological approach. The survey technique was used to collect data. The population included 57 heads of household whose children had been put in foster homes. The results yielded the number of household members, the family typology and schooling as well as the type of occupation of family members. The study concluded that the conditions of vulnerability and deprivation of the birth families of the beneficiaries of foster homes are quite problematic.
