Local Authorities vs. Logistic Management in a City And a Region

Abstract
The introduction of practical aspects of logistic management in the economy of a region or city poses a number of requirements in front of local authorities. The author highlights key issues in economical, social and spatial development sphere. In particular, the focus is put on specifying trends and operations, which authorities should take in consideration in order to support the logistic activation of a region. This process requires a clear indication of entities capable of executing it. One of the most important instruments applied by government authorities are local development strategies, which are the basis for decision making in long, medium and short terms. In addition, they enable to link far-reaching goals of city development with demands of current management of a city or region. The article has been formed on the basis of author’s research conducted in 2007-2009 in the region of Lodz. Research enabled the author to work out a number of conclusions which can relate to a variety of regions in Poland.
