Abstract
Cartoon is a serious thing. Not only cartoonists – most of them are, in fact, serious people – but also theorists who reflect on everyday life, philosophers and sociologists have tried to grasp its fragility, typical exaggeration, abruptness, its ability to reflect the unpleasant reality very precisely. Very often, it is cartoons which serve as a barometer of the moods in society and as a prognostic indicator of societal changes. By cartoonists we primarily mean drawing cartoonists; however, the concept of cartoons is, of course, much wider. “Man is a true-born violator of any given boundaries,” writes the German sociologist Georg Simmel.
