MEASURING CORTICAL ACTIVITY DURING AUDITORY PROCESSING WITH FUNCTIONAL NEAR-INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY
Journal Title: Journal of Hearing Science - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 4
Abstract
Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an optical, non-invasive neuroimaging technique that investigates human brain activity by calculating concentrations of oxy- and deoxyhemoglobin. The aim of this publication is to review the current state of the art as to how fNIRS has been used to study auditory function. We address temporal and spatial characteristics of the hemodynamic response to auditory stimulation as well as experimental factors that affect fNIRS data such as acoustic and stimulus-driven effects. The rising importance that fNIRS is generat-ing in auditory neuroscience underlines the strong potential of the technology, and it seems likely that fNIRS will become a useful clinical tool.

MISMATCH NEGATIVITY AND THE N2B COMPONENT ELICITED BY PURE TONES AND SPEECH SOUNDS IN ANOMIC APHASIA: A CASE STUDY
Background: The auditory processing impairments frequently observed in aphasia are being slowly clarified by using eventrelated potentials (ERPs), a method that allows brain processes to be observed at high temporal reso...
SELF-REPORTED TINNITUS HANDICAP IN INDIVIDUALS WITH AUDITORY NEUROPATHY SPECTRUM DISORDER
Background: Tinnitus is one of the symptoms reported by individuals with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorders (ANSD). There are no studies examining the handicap caused by tinnitus in these cases. The study administere...

COCHLEAR IMPLANTATION IN CONGENITALLY DEAF CHILDREN WITH ISOLATED LARGE VESTIBULAR AQUEDUCT: A SURGEON’S PERSPECTIVE
Background: The vestibular aqueduct is a bony canal containing the endolymphatic duct. Its average diameter is 0.6 to 1.5 mm at its midpoint between the crus communes and its opening at the posterior cranial fossa. If th...
