Metaphorical Perceptions of Pre-Service Mathematics Teacher towards Art in Mathematics Activities

Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the art perceptions of in mathematics activities of pre-service mathematics teachers through metaphors. The method of the study is designed as a case study of qualitative research designs. The study group consisted of 92 pre-service teachers studying in mathematics teaching program. The data were collected with a form where pre-service teachers completed the statement “Mathematics activities are like the art of…, because…”. Content analysis was used to analyze the answers of pre-service teachers. As a result of the evaluations, the metaphorical perceptions of pre-service mathematics teachers towards art were determined under 5 themes. These themes are expressed as mind, profession, mathematical, life and activity. As a result of the evaluations, the metaphorical perceptions of pre-service teachers about art in mathematics activities were determined.
