Micro Nutrient and Heavy Metal Contents of Linden Leaves and Flowers

Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2021, Vol 5, Issue 3

Abstract

Linden is widely consumed as a supplement for the treatment of many different illnesses in Turkey and generally it is wild harvested. However, it is recommended to be careful in its consumptions since it is a good bioindicator and heavy metal accumulator, even though has positive effects on health. With this objective, linden leaves and flowers were collected from different herbalists and green areas in the densely populated districts of Izmir Municipality. Some of the micro nutrients (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn and B) and toxic heavy metals (Co, Cd, Cr, Ni, and Pb) were measured. It has been determined that linden is rich in minerals, but some micro nutrients and heavy metals are at critical levels.
