MODELING THE THERMAL PHENOMENA IN THE FRICTION PROCESS OF THE SLIDING BEARING

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 264, Issue 6

Abstract

Thermal imaging tests allow for precise location of improperly operating elements of machines and devices. This is particularly important in elements of bearing systems where relative rotational movement causes the release of a significant quantity of heat. The study shows the possibility of using thermal imaging to monitor the phenomena occurring during the process of friction. Thermal model of a plain bearing presented in the work may also be used to determine the basic friction characteristics of the bearing. To achieve the assumed tasks, the original diagnostic test stand has been built that enables the registration and recording of temperature distribution in sliding bearings. The stand is presented in the paper along with tests results in the form of thermal images for the bearing operating both as loaded and unloaded. The comparative tests have been made both for bearings lubricated by an oil of viscosity grade VG46 and operating in technically dry friction condition. For the analysis of the temperature distribution was used the computer program FLIR QuickReport. The analysis was a base for specification some conclusions of the work.
