Modern approaches to optimization of external therapy of pityriasis versicolor

Abstract

According to different authors up to 10 % of the world population suffer from pityriasis versicolor. Considering the tendency to an increase in the incidence of this dermatosis, a change in the virulence of the pathogen, the formation of resistance to therapy, the need to improve the existing approaches to the treatment of pityriasis versicolor does not lose its relevance. Objective — to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combined external use of naftifine hydrochloride 1 % and salicylic ointment 3 % in the treatment of pityriasis versicolor. Materials and methods. Under supervision there were 24 patients with pityriasis versicolor, including 14 (58 %) men and 10 (42 %) women, aged 16 to 43 years. Depending on the method of treatment, the patients were divided into 2 groups: main group — 14 patients treated topically with 1 % naftifine hydrochloride and 3 % salicylic ointment; control group — 10 patients receiving only naftifine hydrochloride 1 %. Results and discussion. The proposed combined treatment regimen for pityriasis versicolor showed high efficacy. After 14 days of treatment, clinical recovery was achieved in 100 % of patients of the main group and only in 80 % of patients of the control group. Bacterioscopic examination on the 14th day of therapy and on the 7th day after its termination showed negative results in 100 % of patients of the main group, while 30 % of patients of the control group had positive results of bacterioscopy, despite the negative Balzer test. Conclusions. The proposed combined technique for the treatment of pityriasis versicolor, including 1 % naftifine hydrochloride and 3 % salicylic ointment, has a pronounced therapeutic effect, is safe and well tolerated by patients.
