Modern methods of teaching economic and social geography of Ukraine

Abstract

The article analyzes the modern methods of teaching economic and social geography of Ukraine. In this course, we propose to use different methods and technologies. In the «Administrative-territorial division of Ukraine» topic, we propose to use a competition game «Find a city on the map». Cards with the names of the cities should be made for the game. Each card comes with a pin. The class is split into teams. There are players from each team who one after another should find the city on the map. The winner is the team that scores maximum points. A role playing game is an educational activity where participants play the roles offered by the teacher. We use this game with the topic «Demographic processes and gender-age structure of the world population and Ukraine», the game is named «Institute of system research of the population of Ukraine». The «Press» method gives an opportunity to learn, formulate and express pupil’s opinion in the main question clearly and convincingly It is proposed to be used while studying the topic «Social sphere», where pupils discuss and argue their positions on the main question – why the human development index in regions of Ukraine is uneven. There are 4 steps here: position («I believe»), justification («because»), examples, conclusions. The project technology method at the lessons of geography plays a very important role, because it gives the opportunity to prepare young pupils to resolve various social problems. School pupils, while studying the geography of their region, are offered to do a project: «What hiking trail in our region can you offer to attract tourists from other regions of Ukraine? Propose the plan to create this trail taking into account all possible factors». The main purpose of the Case Study method is to teach pupils to solve complex and unstructured problems that cannot be solved analytically. Case Study activates pupils, develops informational and communicative competences, leaving pupils one-on-one with real-life situations. While studying the topic «Ukraine in the International Trade. The external economic relations of Ukraine», it is proposed to apply the Case Study method.
