MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF BRACHIAL ARTERY AND ITS VARIATIONS IN BRANCHING PATTERN
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomy and Research - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 4
Abstract
Background: The brachial artery, a continuation of the axillary artery, begins at the distal (inferior) border of the tendon of teres major and ends distal to the elbow joint (at the level of the neck of the radius) by dividing into radial and ulnar arteries. The brachial artery is wholly superficial, covered anteriorly only by skin and superficial and deep fascia. In the present study we aimed to describe the high origin of brachial artery and its branching variations. Materials and methods: The present study was conducted in 40 formalin fixed upper limbs selected by convenient sampling irrespective of age and sex over a period of 6 months. The brachial artery was exposed and the length of the brachial artery and the distance of the profunda brachii artery from the lower border of teres major were measured using a thread and a measuring tape. Variations of brachial artery and its branches were noted. Results: In the present study, arterial variations can be classified as high division of brachial artery in five limbs, which is 12.5% of the 40 limbs dissected. Origin of profundabrachii artery is quite variable in 15% (6 limbs) of cases. Conclusion: Variations of Brachial artery and its branches are common both in respect of formation and termination.Knowledge of the vascular variations will increase the success of the surgical and radiological procedures.
VARIATIONS IN THE ORIGIN OF GONADAL ARTERY AND ITS CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Background: A sound knowledge of variations of blood vessels is required during operative, diagnostic and endovascular procedures in the abdomen and pelvis. The anatomy of the gonadal vessels has assumed more importance...
MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF SUBMANDIBULAR SALIVARY GLAND IN FOETUS OF VARING AGE
Background: The morphological study of foetal submandibular gland has been the subject of much investigation in recent years. Throughout the foetal life the submandibular salivary gland progressively increases in size an...
FREQUENCY OF ANENCEPHALY AND ITS ASSOCIATED ANOMALIES
Introduction: Anencephaly accounts for one of the most common birth defects & is associated with a high mortality & morbidity. The objective was to determine frequency of anencephaly and its associated anomalies, risk fa...
TERMINATION OF THE COMMON FACIAL VEIN INTO THE ANTERIOR JUGULAR VEIN: A RARE CASE REPORT
The facial vein drains the facial region of our body. It unites with the anterior division of the retromandibular vein to form the common facial vein. In this case report, the retromandibular vein was seen dividing norma...
MORPHOMETRIC STUDY OF PEDICLES OF DRIED ADULT HUMAN LUMBAR VERTEBRAE IN UDAIPUR ZONE
Introduction: It has been suggested that reduced inter-pedicular distance is one of the cause of primary narrowing of the spinal canal may lead to low back pain.Transpedicular approaches are being widely used in many sur...
