Intussusception is defined as the telescoping of proximal segment of intestine (intussusceptum) into a distal segment of intestine (intussuscipens). Intussusceptions are classified into three general categories: enteric (small bowel into small bowel), ileocolic (small bowel into colon) and colonic (colon to colon).
