A Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) was used Results: The results show that 19,5% of Bulgarians at some point in their life (up to the moment of the interview) suffered from a mental disorder within the investigated group (lifetime prevalence). 11,2% of the Bulgarian people suffered from a mental disorder (from the investigated group) over the preceding 12 months before the interview (twelve-month prevalence). Conclusion: The study performed for the first time provides in-depth information on the prevalence of common mental health disorders in Bulgaria. The diagnoses were confirmed according to the 10th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) and American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV). This is the first survey that was conducted based on the principle of a nationally representative sample of the entire population.
