NATURAL EXPEDITION RESEARCH OF COASTAL ZONE OF THE BLACK AND AZOV SEAS BY MEMBERS OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY AND NATURAL RESOURCES USAGE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL MECHNIKOV ׳S UNIVERSITY OF ODESSA

Abstract
Purpose of the work can be defined as a retrospective analysis and assessment of the effectiveness of field expedition research of the Department of Physical Geography in the coastal zone of Black and Azov seas that are important for the development of the theory of geography and solutions of practical economic tasks. The paper is based on the materials of study of the coastal zone of Black and Azov seas by staff of the Department of Physical Geography Odessa National University During current time the basic centre of a coastal sciences of Ukraine became National Mechnikov’s University of Odessa. In period of the 20th XX century on the Physical Geography Department were started coastal development of the Black and Azov Seas. During the 30th first special programme of coast detecting was elaborated under advising of professor I.Androsov and engineer G.Aksentiev, base of new coastal theory. In 1952 PhD señor Georgy Aksentiev was elected as a first Ukrainian representative in Coastal Commission of Academy Sciences of the USSR. In 1972 Assoc. Prof. PhD Yuriy Shuisky was at the head of coastal direction on the Physical Geography Department and began different nature researches along shores of the Black Sea, the Azov Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Far East Seas, the Mediterranean Seas etc. To-day he is member of International Group of «the Sea Coasts», CCE IGU member, expert UNEP OCA/PAC, Honorary Member of Ukranian Geographical Society. Professor Y.Shuisky was advisor for 11 doctors of geographical sciences and 10 PhD señiors. Employees of the Department, who are Investigators of a coastal zone, accomplish basic part of geographical publications, expeditions, educating materials, texts of lectures, and different trainings. Physical Geography Department is directive centre of national scientific school «Theory & Practice of Coastal Sciences» and training of students.
