НАВЧАННЯ СТУДЕНТІВ ТЕХНІЧНИХ ЗАКЛАДІВ ВИЩОЇ ОСВІТИ АНГЛІЙСЬКОГО МОНОЛОГІЧНОГО МОВЛЕННЯ НА МАТЕРІАЛІ БРИФІНГІВ

Abstract
The problem of teaching Ukrainian students professionally oriented English monologue has been researched for a long time. Such important aspects as learning styles, individualization, creativity were considered. Different methodologies for different professions were theoretically substantiated, developed and experimentally verified. Among the latest ones are methodologies for technical workers, economists, physicians, mathematicians. However, the professional requirements for different positions are changing a lot. Technical workers are more often engaged in technical public communication. Briefing is a common form of communication where new technologies, designs, and products are presented. Delivering scientific information at the briefings requires special knowledge. Thus it is necessary to know the structure of the briefing, appropriate body language, interests of the audience, the ability to avoid common communication problems, use slides effectively in order to keep the audience’s attention etc. Purpose. To apply the existing methodology of using briefings for teaching technical students. Methods. Analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, questionnaire. Results. Main topics and roles for teaching technical students English monologue speech have been defined. Among the most common topics are green engineering, new technologies, improving human health, scientific research, successful career etc; typical roles are technician, engineer, director, businessman, business partner, founder, manager, investor, project manager, technologist, chief, subordinate, journalist, designer, consultant, secretary, representative of an organization or a company, guest, senior official, advisor, expert, deputy etc. Two main stages of teaching have been specified and subsystem of exercises was developed. The subsystem contains five groups of exercises: 1) to get knowledge about briefings and their types, 2) to practice pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, 3) to create structure of the briefing, 4) to create a mini monologue according to the situation 5) to present briefing. Conclusions. Technical briefings, press briefings and business briefings are new and efficient forms of communication which can be effectively used for teaching technical students English monologue.
