A RARE DISORDER- PICA: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Role of conventional Radiology as a diagnostic application is not a lost love.A child presented with acute pain abdomen to our emergency department and was treatedsymptomatically, with on and off relief of the symptoms for next 2 days.Later the child was referred to Radiology department for erect abdomen radiograph. The radiograph showed multiple calcific densities filling the entire colon uniformly. No abnormal air fluid levels were seen. Child was given soap water enema after which loose stools was passed which contained multiple small stones, not blood tinged. Child improved symptomatically over the next 3-4 days and discharged cheerfully. The diagnosis of PICA was made (Medical disorder characterized by an abnormal appetite for substances largely nonnutritive) which was correlated with the history retrospectively
