CAROTENOID CONTENT OF UNUTILIZED MARINE ORNAMENTAL FISHES (DASCYLLUS TRIMACULATUS, POMACENTRUS PAVO, THALASSOMA LUNARE)

Journal Title: Asian J of Pharm Sci & Tech - Year 2014, Vol 4, Issue 3

Abstract

ABSTRACT The carotenoid pigment has much significance in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The goal of this research was analyzing the content of carotenoid from non edible marine fish species such as Dascyllus trimaculatus, Pomacentrus pavo, Thalassoma lunare which was available throughout the year in fishing harbor with least cost. Carotenoid content of Dascyllus trimaculatus (14.9 ± 0.13 µg/g), Pomacentrus pavo (22.3 ± 1.66 µg/g), Thalassoma lunare (4.126 ± 0.81 µg/g). It reveals that would be a cheaper alternative source than synthetic carotenoid in medicinal purpose and aquaculture feed formulation. Key words: Carotenoids, Ornamental fishes, Astaxanthin.
