Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2016, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
The study was conducted in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State to examine the economic analysis of (Dodo-Ikire) fried over ripe plantain production. Primary data were collected from 80 respondents with the use of structured questionnaire; the data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis to estimate the determinant in the production level. The result reveals that all the respondents were female and 68.8% of the respondents were married. Also all the respondents had one form of formal education and had Dodo-Ikire production as their major occupation. The determinant analysis shows that the coefficients for quantity of palm oil used, quantity produced per bunch and bunch use were positive and significant at 1% level. Cost and return analysis showed that average total revenue on dodo-ikire was N7,412.39k. The result revealed that Gross Margin was N249,261.00k. The regression shows that pepper, plantain and palm oil were significant which implies that they contribute significantly to the total output of Dodo-Ikire production. Based on these findings government should assist the Dodo-Ikire producers in the provision of capital and construction of good roads, should form an association that will enhance their access to credit facility and also create an awareness that will promote Dodo-Ikire production in the study area.
