MATURE CYSTIC SACROCOCCYGEAL TERATOMA IN A CHILD- A CASE REPORT

Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 25

Abstract

Sacrococcygeal Teratomas (SCT) are congenital neoplasms, composed of a wide diversity of tissues foreign to the anatomical site in which they arise, that develop early in foetal life. They attract attention because of their gross appearance and bizarre histology. A case of 2 ½ yr female presented with mass in sacrococcygeal region. For evaluation initially Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) was performed, after routine hematological investigations. FNAC revealed features of benign sacrococcygeal teratoma. Subsequently abdominal and pelvic radiography and ultrasonography (USG) were done. USG showed cystic mass in front of sacrum. Then excision of the cyst was done and it was sent for histopathology report (HPR). HPR revealed Benign Cystic Sacrococcygeal Teratoma, thus confirming the diagnosis given on FNAC. And it is presented as this is an uncommon tumor diagnosed by FNAC.
