Physiological and oxidative stress responses of potato mother-tuber applied hydrogen peroxide
Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2015, Vol 11, Issue 3
Abstract
Different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (20, 40, 60 and 80 mM) were applied in potato mother tubers before planting in field. Afer harvesting, the results indicated that seed soaking mother tubers with hydrogen peroxide (40 mM) ameliorated carotenoids content (15.4 mg/kg). At 20 and 80 mM, hydrogen peroxide increases also significantly polyphenols (525 and 518 mg/kg respectively). In addition, tuber content of ascorbic acid was improved (maximum value was recordered at 80 mM : 13,9-19,4 mg/kg, over control = 12,9 mg/kg) for all concentrations applied of hydrogen peroxide. Besides, application of high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (60 and 80 mM) decreases significantly nitrates tubers content (187 and 185 mg/kg respectively). At low levels (20 mM) nitrates content was increasing (286 mg/kg) over control (301 mg/kg).
