RESEARCHES CONCERNING THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF ESSENTIAL OIL FROM PELARGONIUM RADENS AND APPLICATIONS UPON MICROORGANISM CULTURES
Journal Title: Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Serie noua, Sectiunea II a. Biologie vegetala - Year 2005, Vol 51, Issue 0
Abstract
Samples of Pelargonium radens H.E. Moore have been taken before the flowering period, for anatomical identification of the secretory structures and essential oil extraction and analysis. The essential oil of P. radens before the flowering period has been found in amount of approximately 0,33% from the fresh material weight. Essential oil was extracted by steam distillation using a modified Clevenger apparatus, whereas the chemical composition was analysed by GC – MS, and for P. radens it was found to have 64 components. The main components of P. radens essential oil are: citrinelol: 28,7%; mentone 27,3%; citronelil formate 8,4%, β-endesmol 4,81%, feniletil caproate 1,6%, geraniol 1,6%, isomentone 1,58%, as well as other components, in a concentration of less than 1,5%. The microorganisms tested were strains of Escherichia coli, G(-) and Staphylococcus aureus, G(+) using the antibiogramme method. Essential oil was tested in a concentration of 1000ppm and 500 ppm, solved in DMSO. The effect of DMSO was tested and was found null. At these concentrations, the essential oil of P. radens was found to have no effect upon E. coli and inhibitory effect upon S. aureus.

THE CELLULAR STRUCTURE OF THE FOLIAR LIMBS OF SPONTANEOUS SEDUM TELEPHIUM SSP. MAXIMUM (L.) KROCK PLANTS HARVESTED FROM NATURE
We investigated structural aspects of cells of the Sedum telephium L. ssp. maximum (L.) Krock foliar limbs, plant that belongs to the Crassulaceae family. These plants were grown under natural conditions. Our research al...
ORGANOGENESIS IN CHRYSANTHEMUM MORIFOLIUM RAMAT (CULTIVAR “ROMICA”) CALLUS CULTURES
The plants of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. (cultivar Romica) have been regenerated from callus cultures, established from stem and leaves explants. Callus cultures induced from stems had a greater shoot differen...
THE ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE FORESTRY ASSOCIATIONS FROM THE MIDDLE STREAM OF THE NIRAJ VALLEY (ROMANIA, MUREŞ COUNTY)
The aim of this study was the qualitative structure assessment of the forestry associations sustaining a large number of rare or declining bird species, reason that the Special Protection Area was established. These are...
COMPARATIVE STUDY ON ALLELOPATHIC POTENTIAL OF PETROSELINUM CRISPUM (MILL.) FUSS
Allelopathy is a biological phenomenon in which an organism produces one or more biochemicals that influence the growth, survival, and reproduction of other organisms. This paper reports studies on the allelopathic effec...
