Studies on Gamma Ray Induced Mutations and Impact on Protein Profile in Mulberry Morus alba L
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Electrophoresis leaf protein profiles revealed proteins (polypeptides) of both high and low molecular weight range with a prominent 44kDa protein as major components. Induced Gamma - rays has influenced quantitative differences in the minor components and low molecular weight proteins present in trace amounts. However, in mulberry variety S34 significant decrease in the quantity of 55kDa protein was observed with the increase in dosage from 7kR to 10kR. Thus 6kR was optimum limit dosage of gamma irradiation. The study infers that the mulberry variety S34 seems to be sensitive for gamma irradiation above 6kR and the decline in the quantitative parameters of productivity can be directly correlated to the photosynthetic productivity
