The study of a defect evolution in iron under fatigue loading in gigacyclic fatigue regime
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 35
Abstract
The work is devoted to the study of the damage accumulation in iron under gigacyclic fatigue (VHCF) regime. The study of the mechanical properties of the samples with different state of life time existing was carried out on the base of the acoustic resonance method. The damage accumulation (porosity of the samples) was studied by the hydrostatic weighing method. The obtained results show the accumulation of porosity in the volume of the sample during fatigue loading and corresponding decrease of the elastic properties. A statistical model of damage accumulation was proposed in order to describe the damage accumulation process. The model describes the influence of the sample surface on the location of fatigue crack initiation.

Inter-laminar shear stress in hybrid CFRP/austenitic steel
Bolted joints are the most common solution for joining composite components in aerospace structures. Critical structures such as wing to fuselage joints, or flight control surface fittings use bolted joining tech...
Fatigue crack propagation in short-fiber reinforced plastics
The influence of fiber orientation on the crack propagation behavior was studied with single edgenotched specimens which were cut from an injection-molded plate of short-fiber reinforced plastics of polyp...
Three-dimensional effects on cracked components under anti-plane loading
The existence of three-dimensional effects at cracks has been known for many years, but understanding has been limited, and for some situations still is. Understanding improved when the existence of corner point...
Measurement and analysis of fatigue crack deformation on the macro- and micro-scale
The paper describes an experiment which performs in-situ loading of a small compact tension specimen in a scanning electron microscope. Images are collected throughout a number of successive loadincg cycles...
