Neuroeconomics and Discussions about the Future of Economics

Abstract

The science of economics is dominated by neo-classical economics. The assumptions of neo-classical economics are based on homo economicus which represents rational human beings. But, human beings do not represent the assumption of homo economicus completely in real life. This situation caused the science of economics and psychology converged. And this converge has given rise to various concepts in historical process. Within these concepts, neuroeconomics comes into prominence being the latest. Neuroeconomics, being a new concept in the literature, needs to be explained as what it really means and its position between the concepts it correlate with. The aim of this study is to identify the position of neuroeconomics which is related to psychological economics, economic psychology, behavioral economics and experimental economics and to draw a general framework within these disciplines. In this direction, as a sub branch of behavioral economics and experimental economics, neuroeconomics have a potential that finds out important results in the future of economics.
