Journal Title: UcoArte. Revista de Teoría e Historia del Arte - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 5

Abstract

Access to new texts and images and the recent recovery of apocryphal names labelled on the "Aguilar de la Frontera" series of paintings (Cordova), prove the series donor was Jose Fernandez de Toro instead of Pedro de Toro y Sotomayor, as was said some time ago. Furethermore, the hypothesis that this series belong to the trilogy of apocryphal angels is confirmed. The article analyzes the personality of the series donor. Also, the spanish origing, the meaning and the relation of the apocryphal angels with the american viceroyalities is ratified.
