Nodular Faciitis of the Face

Journal Title: Journal of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine - Year 2019, Vol 72, Issue 1

Abstract

Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a rare benign soft tissue tumor which is usually seen between 20 and 40 years of age. NF was first described as subcutaneous pseudosarcomatous fibromatosis. Nodular fasciitis is most commonly seen in the head and neck region during childhood, although in adults it is generally seen on the upper extremities and the trunk. It grows fast and is not painful. NF resembles sarcomas because of its rapid growth. In this article, an 18-years-old patient with a massive lesion on the mandible which was diagnosed as a spindle cell mesenchymal lesion by incisional biopsy and was diagnosed as NF after the pathologic investigation of surgical excision material is presented.
